Blank Spaces
Empty studio spaces and courtyards in a council block as the projection surface of an acoustic western shoot-out; charged atmospheric images as the enigmatic set pieces of a possible thriller; a protagonist abandoned on the Croatian Riviera in the off-season; the parallel presentation of two unconnected stories from off-screen and on-screen; the witness report on a religiously motivated terror regime that is inscribed in the almost motionless facial features of the narrating protagonist.
Five short films that explore questions of cinematic storytelling, working with omissions, narrative gaps and shifts in image and sound. Viewers are encouraged to fill these "gaps" with their own ideas and create their own cinematic spaces. An exercise in imagining the possible and the impossible. (gw)
