KURT KREN. LORD OF THE FRAMES (1929 –1998)

Kurt Kren's very first film in 1957 - the numbers in the film title indicate the number and year of production - is characterised by a serial montage technique with which Kren, together with Peter Kubelka, anticipated the direction later referred to as "structural film" in the USA. Equally pioneering are his precise scores from the following years, which are on display at mumok until the beginning of February 2019. During his collaboration with the Viennese Actionists, Kren developed his famous short cut method. In addition to the formal intensity, there is also a "documentary" dimension to his work. He created timeless and sometimes touching films from fleeting, everyday moments. (bbu)
