Ghosts, Ghosts
In these three films, places and spaces are animated by ghostly apparitions, reality and the fantastic merge. Ben Pointeker presents another of his mysterious films, the beauty of whose visual composition further intensifies the emotional effect already hinted at. In a Moscow residential complex, formerly built for Stalinist functionaries, Herwig Weiser uses several cameras and long exposure times to set the performers and rooms in apparent vibration. He achieves a horror scenario with a structural concept. In 1971, a film studio near Paris burned down and a residential complex was built on its site. The film essay by Constanze Ruhm and Emilien Awada approaches the location from multiple perspectives, with the ghosts of the past meeting those of the present, just as memory meets fiction. (bbu)
