A Matter of Perception
Sensory illusion on the visual level. Perception is an interplay of received stimuli and their transformation into a sensation. When watching a movie, we might expect to be exposed mainly to visual stimuli, but it is not only the image itself that determines our perception of a movie. In particular, viewing habits, associations with the familiar, experiences and sound cues give the viewer (possibly false) clues to the understanding and reception of what is seen on the screen. This program brings together nine works that demonstrate very different approaches to our perception. Whether one is exposed to visual sensory overload, sensory illusions or the reversal of logical patterns of perception, the films are linked by an examination of what we are able to perceive, or believe we are able to perceive.
