Haiku
Another tiny component of Ernst Schmidt Jr.'s Wienfilm 1896-1976. Or a single release from this large compilation. In any case: three shots, two seconds, two small butterflies; they appear on a white window sill – first together, then separately. A micro relationship drama.
In Wienfilm, another close-up of the (noticeably) same window sill with the (almost certainly) same butterfly – one of the two on her/his own – is prominently placed: First there is the prologue to the film, in which Brendan (listed in the film as Brenda) Kronheim – now an artist, then a six-year-old – talks about filmmaking. This is followed by a billboard reading "Direkt vom Künstler" ["Directly from the artist"]; then we see the lonely insect, and then the opening credits-like Ichfilm (Namensfilm) – I Film (Name Film) –, which spells out Schmidt Jr.'s name and begins on the same window sill. From butterfly to Schmidt Jr., that too is a haiku, whatever it means.
