KLITCLIQUE – Auto
There is a possible cure for patriarchy. The music video Auto by KLITCLIQUE and Anna Spanlang opens with animated images of a therapy session. In a short computer game scene, an avatar tells his avatar therapist that he does bad things, hurts people, etc., "but a good boy sexually". Is that good enough?
In their song, MC's G-Udit and $chwanger (Viennese cloud rap duo Klitclique) conjure a moist masculine dream of automobile driving: Because men do really bad things, they should please be allowed to drive cars. They want to drive cars, that's all they know how to do. They can't lose their way, they always have got to drive faster. Since they can only show emotion when slicing onions, pressure mounts. It leads to an explosion. Men are the norm and drill for oil. Being men is all they can do. The MCs demonstrate a lapidary "I" perspective, making themselves Men. They reach a basic equation: automobile equals man equals phallus equals patriarchy – the goal is its destruction.
Anna Spanlang delivers the images: innumerable video snippets of auto-masculinity from the pool of our collective consciousness – the Pope, Fred Flintstone, David Hasselhoff and K.I.T.T., Putin at Formula One, Grand Theft Auto, selfies of car freaks, NASA images, Google street-views, the shoe being thrown at George W. Bush, weapons, pistols, atom bomb explosions – edited together at a breathtaking tempo. Spanlang understands the power of these impressions. The density of her material is pieced together into a high-speed montage that sustains the images to a point of neutralization. The found footage and processing escalates into a reinterpretation, a multi-layered collage that thickens into a "sauce" “ (G-udit/ Spanlang) in which the patriarchy should drown. The direction of the therapist: Give up the patriarchy. The medication: Overthrow the system by selling off the auto. (Christiane Erharter)
