Landscape
Film reads in the book of nature, Schmidt Jr. once again films a book. In other words, he films a landscape for five seconds, which we encounter as a painting reproduced in a book: this is shown by the fold in the page, vertically across the image, and by the book´s closing – like a fade-out, a typically minimalist Schmidt Jr. gesture that somehow legitimises the subsequent, "End" title (which is typical of this filmmaker and often ironic, but not so much in this case). The film is in black and white, the book reproduction of the painting is probably in colour, the painting itself is almost certainly in colour, and the landscape depicted probably is too. Everything is mediated, is reading, and is therefore very close to us. (Drehli Robnik)
