Katzenjammer
Voyeuristic curiosity in the youTube era: A young woman lying on her bed trying to lure her supposed ex-boyfriend back. Lascivious but insecure, she expresses herself with her words and her body, her gaze directed time and time again towards her computer´s webcam. We return the gaze, assuming the recipient´s role along with a million other Internet users. Privacy has long left the private sphere. (Sebastian Höglinger)
In semi-pleading propositions, Kurdwin Ayub attempts to draw the imaginary addressee of the video (evidently, her ex-boyfriend) under her spell once again. Stuck between the archetypical images of “innocent girl” and “seductive femme fatale,” Ayub, with her awkwardness and hesitancy, clearly illustrates the unease and also the comedy that ensues from the area of friction between these two notions of femininity.
