Limes - Operation Limes

In December 1997 the Schengen Agreement came into effect, as a result of which Austrias eastern border became the outer border of the EU. The securing of this border was called Operation Limes by the Ministry of the Interior, presumably after the ancient Roman limes which divided the continent here 2000 years ago. Limes shows an Austrian border patrol and how they capture illegal border crossers at night, then follows the capturees to a Hungarian reception camp. (E.W.)
